Outdoor artificial topiary trees, including boxwood topiary plants, were identified as a strong design candidate for this busy St. Paul, MN hotel. The artificial topiaries would be able to withstand harsh weather conditions, including recurring winter storms and fierce winds, and stand up to occasional downtown vandalism. Commercial Silk Int'l was contracted to landscape the main entrance of the building with outdoor topiary trees in addition to providing artificial trees for the hotel interior.
Specific outdoor Boxwood topiary plants were selected based on how they would fit with the hotel decor. In order to stabilize the topiaries for the long term, each were give concrete bases, which would also be a deterrent for would-be thieves thinking they could run off with the topiary plants.
The outdoor topiaries were installed by Commercial Silk Int’l installers during off-peak hotel hours to ensure business interruption would be at a minimum. In the end, the Crowne Plaza Hotel team was pleased that the boxwood topiaries provided an all-in-one solution comprised of savvy design and charm, functionality, theft deterrence, and low ongoing maintenance costs.
