Green Artificial Boxwood Topiary Plant Walls for LEED Restaurant

situation:

Casa Conde, an international design firm with a focus in upscale design projects, was hired by eco-friendly restaurant Pizza Fusion to implement green artificial topiary walls using silk plant materials. The organic and all-natural pizzeria was seeking LEED Certification, which aligned with the company’s philosophy of high quality products and service combined with a focus on the environment, including the delivery of pizza in company owned hybrid vehicles and offsetting 100 percent of their power consumption with the purchase of renewable wind energy certificates.

initiatives:

During the design process, Casa Conde contracted Commercial Silk Int’l to provide Class A fire retardant artificial boxwood mats for the green wall. The wall would provide a focal point at the bar, and the boxwood plants would emphasize the chain's natural concept without adding the expense of ongoing costly plant maintenance.

results:

Commercial Silk Int’l successfully provided the client with affordable boxwood wall material, and was the only plant solution that met the fire retardant criteria of all the artificial plant manufacturers that Casa Conde researched.

Commercial Silk Int’l helped Pizza Fusion reach their goals of energy, water, and expense reductions. The artificial plants require minimal maintenance and are sold at a one-time fee, thereby eliminating the ongoing costs associated with live plant care. In addition to these reductions, the boxwood paneled wall provided a comfortable work and dining environment, which stimulated employee productivity and repeat visits to the pizzeria.
