OUTDOOR ARTIFICIAL LANDSCAPE: PLASTIC BOXWOOD HEDGES FOR CASINO

SITUATION:

Ameristar Casinos, Inc opened a luxury suite Casino Resort Spa complex in St. Charles, Missouri. The property’s new amenities include an enhanced entryway with a new, five-lane road renamed Ameristar Boulevard, leading to the casino’s entrance. Part of the design of the casino’s new entrance called for an outdoor garden of UV resistant outdoor topiary plants.

A local outdoor landscaping firm was hired to explore the possibility of using outdoor artificial plants. One of the challenges facing the design team was finding a manufacturer that could provide UV topiary plants that were large enough to landscape the casino’s grand entrance.

INITIATIVES:

Commercial Silk Int’l was contracted by the outdoor landscaping firm to work through various outdoor artificial plant options. In addition, the casino’s grand entrance is a covered area, which lead us to propose our UV resistant outdoor plants in two-tone colors to brighten the area. Our project team proposed a number of potential artificial topiary plant options using artificial hedges and unusual artificial topiaries.

Although the outdoor topiary plants around the casino’s entrance were trapezoid shaped outdoor artificial topiary plants, the plant's frames had to be built to fit a curve in the planters. Ameristar Boulevard’s pavement also sloped down toward the casino’s entrance, which meant that the artificial topiaries and outdoor artificial hedges had to be designed to tight specification for a fitting installation.

Lighting the casino’s covered entrance was also a factor in the outdoor artificial landscape. Several of the artificial hedges and the artificial topiary shapes were built with access panels for future accessibility for the lights, which allowed the design to hide unsightly items.

RESULTS:

Commercial Silk Int’l successfully designed and manufactured the custom outdoor topiary plants which included artificial hedges and artificial topiaries made with our Boxwood foliage. The fine textured material along with the vibrant two toned colors created a very upscale and exciting atmosphere to the casino’s entrance. The installation was easily completed due to our user-friendly landscape installation plan, and the outdoor artificial plants satisfied all of our project’s UV plant requirements.
