THE BUCKEYE TREE

THE BUCKEYE TREE

The Ohio State Buckeye Tree is also known as the Aesculus glabra. It is a deciduous tree from the Horsechestnut Family, which has gray bark with scaly plates.

The Buckeye tree is the official tree of the state of Ohio. The Buckeye tree produces a nut which many Ohio natives will carry with them for good luck. The nut produced by the buckeye tree appears to look like a deer's eye. The Buckeye tree grows leaves early in the spring and looses leaves early in the fall.

Attributes of the Buckeye tree are that it's normal mature tree height (and width) ranges from 20 to 40'. The growth rate is moderate which requires to be located in a sunny to partial shady spot and likes a very moist, well drained environment. It will not survive well in dry areas.
