Trade Show and Convention Center Design with Silk Plants and Trees Situation : Centerpoint Marketing contacted Commercial Silk Int'l to use trade show design and convention center design principles to create an indoor park-like setting using silk trees for one of the largest home improvement events in Nevada. A seamless shopping and browsing experience between trade show booths was desired, and the silk trees would be used to tie the show floor exhibits together. In addition to the trade show design, the trees had to be fire retardant to pass NFPA 701 state fire code criteria. With large exhibits requiring hundreds of delivery vehicles, strict truck unloading time frames and guidelines had to be met as well. Initiative : The Commercial Silk Int’l design team worked closely with the Centerpoint Marketing trade show designer to develop their vision of a natural park setting and to scale the convention center's open space and high ceilings. Artificial birch trees were chosen for their light, creamy white bark and a high branching structure that would not obstruct views. They were then strategically placed throughout the exhibit hall to establish smaller, more intimate areas between exhibitors. The artificial trees also helped direct traffic and -- with the addition of planters and benches -- offered a place to sit and chat. Results : The implementation of silk plants and trees successfully established the desired park-like setting for the trade show and convention center. The fire retardant trees passed state fire code requirements, fit within budget parameters, and were shipped in time to satisfy the strict delivery guidelines.
