Feature Trees
We design and build Feature Trees that serve as the center of your brand. We’ve developed four critical considerations to guide the creation of each piece.
Our Design + Build Experiencenature
Scale, Presence, and Power.
Implementing a Feature Tree is an opportunity to share in the awesome power of nature. Experiencing the presence of a true feature tree evokes a sensation of wonder and adoration for the natural world.
MoreWe take a professional, knowledgeable approach in replicating these astounding pieces. Botanically accurate and scientifically credible – we guide your vision to reality, and make your decisions easier by advising these specific conditions of your Feature Tree project.
< LessPurpose
Aesthetics, Experience, Engagement
Whether an architectural expression of your brand, a thematic addition for entertainment, each Feature Tree has the ability to tell a story.
MoreFeature Trees make a powerful focal point in a commercial space, and communicate forward-thinking values to your guests. They also create a more complete aesthetic character, improving the value of your entertainment experience. Our program considers each of these areas when building our Feature Trees:
< LessSpatial
Context, Balance, Intent
A Feature Tree, by our definition, embraces the context of the space in which it is installed. So much more than an off-the-shelf replica, a Feature Tree and the space it is destined for exist with intentional balance and harmony.
MoreFor a Feature Tree to succeed, it must be presented properly by the space, and the Tree must in turn support the existing structures. We examine each of these areas for a superior experience and presence in your Feature Tree.
< LessFeasibilty
Engineering, Site Conditions, Logistics
We manufacture Feature Trees with respect for the destination, making changes to our plans when your space calls for special consideration and planning.
MoreWith our extensive industry experience, we know how to solve for any challenges in feasibility. Our Feature Trees are regularly tested and certified along the following conditions:
< Lessclimate reading
Origin of tree compared to installation context.
Consistency of Tree species.
related species
Review selection of trees, suggest related species of trees and plants to add as natural inclusions.
branching pattern
Follow natural guidelines to determine angle + count of branching, while remaining within engineering restrictions.
texture
Source bark mold from live specimen of same variety
Adjust texture and wrapping; additional coloration and hand painted texture based on site context and theme.
foliage density
Live species determines default density
Adjust density for intent of the project; account for shade, sight blocking, light filtering.
Client Vision
Understand and internalize Client Vision and desires.
Communicate and verify construction plans with client’s desired outcome.
character
Ensure tree coloration, texture, and aesthetic remains cohesive with existing structures and features.
Maintain alignment with client expecations of visual outcome.
experience
Design and execute desired client experience.
Implement LED systems, animatronics, projection mapping and more according to entertainment plan.
engagement
Create intuitive and safe experience for physical engagement
Safely outfit trees with stairs, swings, climbable sections, or other physical interactions.
dynamics
Understand client needs according to installation plans; build for specific scenarios such as trade shows, conventions, entertainment parks & more.
Entry Point
Review first impressions, define egress, consider perspective and “grand entry”.
Define all alternate entry points and address aesthetic perception.
pedestrian flow
Incorporate Feature Tree to work within existing boundaries, or redefine them based on client needs.
Identify natural gathering spaces, and support them through implementation of Feature Tree
Line of sight
Understand vertical dimension of space, consider canopy sizing and line of sight to nearby areas of interest and signage. Adjust scale to better accomodate optics within the space.
focal point
Understand Feature Tree within a 360° space, consider perspective from multiple angles and define primary viewing angle of a focal point Feature.
framing
Identify vantages from adjacent sections through doorways, thresholds, windows and other openings.
Use existing spatial structure to support planned scenes and viewpoints.
site conditions
Analyze site conditions for obstacles, hazards and opportunities related to existing structure.
Formulate construction plans around site conditions.
deflections
Engineer and affirm structural integrity vs lateral movement, leaning, shoving & bending.
structual load
Use engineering measurements and weight information to construct appropriate foundation, base plate, poured concrete, or other necessary support structures.
show control
Design lighting schema, projected light mapping, LED systems.
Design and demonstrate technology controls for end-user.
construction management
Provide instruction and on-site guidance for assembly, footing, and related project elements.
Connect and integrate with other disciplines, local and federal building codes and standards.
