A Feature Tree, by our definition, embraces the context of the space in which it is installed. So much more than an off-the-shelf replica, a Feature Tree and the space it is destined for exist with intentional balance and harmony.

For a Feature Tree to succeed, it must be presented properly by the space, and the Tree must in turn support the existing structures. We examine each of these areas for a superior experience and presence in your Feature Tree.

Follow natural guidelines to determine angle + count of branching, while remaining within engineering restrictions.

Source bark mold from live specimen of same variety
Adjust texture and wrapping; additional coloration and hand painted texture based on site context and theme.

foliage density

Live species determines default density
Adjust density for intent of the project; account for shade, sight blocking, light filtering.

Understand and internalize Client Vision and desires.
Communicate and verify construction plans with client’s desired outcome.

Entry Point

Review first impressions, define egress, consider perspective and “grand entry”.
Define all alternate entry points and address aesthetic perception.

Identify natural gathering spaces, and support them through implementation of Feature Tree

Line of sight

Understand vertical dimension of space, consider canopy sizing and line of sight to nearby areas of interest and signage. Adjust scale to better accomodate optics within the space.

Understand Feature Tree within a 360° space, consider perspective from multiple angles and define primary viewing angle of a focal point Feature.

framing

Identify vantages from adjacent sections through doorways, thresholds, windows and other openings.
Use existing spatial structure to support planned scenes and viewpoints.

site conditions

Analyze site conditions for obstacles, hazards and opportunities related to existing structure.
Formulate construction plans around site conditions.

Engineer and affirm structural integrity vs lateral movement, leaning, shoving & bending.

structual load

Use engineering measurements and weight information to construct appropriate foundation, base plate, poured concrete, or other necessary support structures.

Design lighting schema, projected light mapping, LED systems.
Design and demonstrate technology controls for end-user.

construction management

Provide instruction and on-site guidance for assembly, footing, and related project elements.
Connect and integrate with other disciplines, local and federal building codes and standards.
